Zinaida had to send her violent husband away. Since then she has taken care of the 4 children on her own. The house belongs to her sister, she does not know how long she can still live there. The house is OK for Moldavian standards. The family has no food because the cow has just died. It is important that the family can provide for its own income, so Zinaida wants a horse to be able to make transports for her neighbours.
